Music Monday: The Boys Are Back In Town, no gimmick.

The Backstory, skip to the “line” for tl;dr: Yesterday was Daylight Savings Time. I’d had a late Saturday night watching a half great-half garbage line-up with the B-Movie TV weekend crew so I didn’t get to bed until around 2am. Normally that doesn’t have too much of an effect on me but DST always messes with my wiring in some unhelpful way. This time around that unhelpful way was my foggy head being confused as to which way the clocks were turning. I would wake up and look over at my clock, think it was the correct time and sleep a little more as one does on a Sunday. Not intending to fall back asleep plus those dumb dreams that don’t feel like dreams until you wake up led to me finally stir at 4:50pm.

Fine, I don’t like it but I’ve been here before. After brushing my teeth and bumbling downstairs to make some food I sit on the couch and turn the TV on. “Why does the TV have a different time from everything else in the house and why can’t I set it?” I slowly realize that the clocks had moved ahead and that I was eating breakfast at 7pm. I had just slept for sixteen hours and my head and jaw were agonizing over having my night guard in for that long. I felt doubly stupid because I had a doctor’s appointment in the morning and there was little chance that I could salvage this. So I did the only thing that could possibly work: eat a burger, take my sleep aid right after so that it would hit me like a brick, set my phone alarm and radio dock alarm, and go back to bed at 11pm.

Throughout the early morning I kept waking up since I’d slept so much already but with the medication at maximum power I drifted right back off. Eventually the phone went off at 8am and I hit snooze. Then a few minutes later the radio went off and I was forced to get out of bed to snooze it. I repeated this battle every four minutes until I was sufficiently awake enough to get into the shower. I had time to make a breakfast sandwich and drink some earl gray until I had to head to the bus center in town. I could have caught the 11am bus and been early, or the 12pm bus and been a few minutes behind schedule. In my mind I would get there either way so I progressed casually, enjoying my sandwich and the happily mild weather; I still made the 11am bus!

With an hour to goof around before my appointment I got lost in music and mobile games. It was a busy day so there was a wait while I sat in the exam room but that just gave me time to stretch my legs and work on a pulled back muscle with my tennis ball. The followup went well and I had been finished with the appointment for only two minutes and had just starting to make the walk over to the next bus stop when the bus I had to catch pulled into the center. I didn’t even have to walk! It was as though every aspect of my day had been laid with such exact precision as to be a divinely bestowed thumbs-up for taking the right course of action the day before.

So, music. Today turned out to be such a power day that it required the mightiest of power songs, so bring out Thin Lizzy! You knew it, and not just any Lizzy song, but the song. The band’s biggest hit and one of the greatest rock anthems ever recorded, which is interesting when you learn that Phil originally didn’t even want to do it for the label in the first place. He only agreed to record “The Boys Are Back In Town” after they agreed to let him take some leave and record a solo album, and I will always be glad for that because whenever my brother and me go to our favorite burger joint in town, I always know what song I’m getting with my dollar.

Guess who just got back today
Them wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven’t changed, hadn’t much to say
But, man, I still think them cats are crazy

They were asking if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
Told them you were living downtown
Driving all the old men crazy

The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
(I said) the boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)

You know that chick that used to dance a lot?
Every night she’d be on the floor shaking what she’d got
Man, when I tell you she was cool, she was red hot
I mean, she was steaming

And that time over at Johnny’s place
Well, this chick got up and she slapped Johnny’s face
Man, we just fell about the place
If that chick don’t want to know, forget her

The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
(I said) the boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)

Spread the word around
Guess who’s back in town

Just spread the word around

Friday night they’ll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino’s Bar and Grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill
And if the boys want to fight you better let them

That jukebox in the corner blasting out my favorite song
The nights are getting warmer, it won’t be long
Won’t be long till summer comes
Now that the boys are here again

The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
Spread the word around
The boys are back in town (the boys are back in town)
The boys are back (the boys are back)

The boys are back in town again
Been hanging down at Dino’s
The boys are back in town again
