A Music Monday “Two-Fer” & Matching with Alex

musicmonday

This past week’s been rough on me but I smartly keep such matters off of this platform. I still felt the need for one hell of a boost though so I was just navigating through different songs and videos via the “Related Videos” sidebar; the YouTube algorithm seems to have adapted well to my eclecticism. It was a video for “The Touch” from The 1985 Transformers movie that kicked a neuron in my brain into action.

Now during the years when the Backstreet Boys ran the world I could have cared less about them and even tossed around some hate just like every other guy at school. The grown me knows that this whole phase came directly from the overdeveloped Jealousy Lobe that sits within each teenage male brain, something which is very easy to observe: if you say, “You’re just jealous.”, and they say, “Shut up.”, that’s the lobe at work. I’m talking from experience and I know that there’s a percentage of readers who just told me to shut up.

Anyway, I had my thick skull cracked a bit when my girlfriend at the time showed me the music video for “Larger Than Life” and my brain blew a fuse. It was Backstreet Boys but there were spaceships and robots and sci-fi technology and space battles and holograms. It was crazy! How could I be enjoying this. The short answer was “Because it’s fucking awesome!” and such was I made slightly less cynical, a process that’s still ongoing. And you know what? Somehow the outdated effects still kind of hold up. 😀

Seeing something that pumped up my energy immediately made me think of today’s second feature song as I can’t feel negative when it come on. When I first hear “Uptown Funk” on the radio I couldn’t believe that it was a new song. It had that old-school style of funk to it and I made the same “Micheal Jackson” comparison that everybody else did. So now when I’m in the car with friends and this song comes up on shuffle we all groove out.

Music Matching with Alex!

Weekly challenge: find or share a song that you know that either has a matching title, theme, or other details. The more matches, the better! Make them clear, make them oddly specific, or make them obscure, it’s yours! Musicians welcome! To enter, simply either leave a link to your match as a comment with a few words (More words, if you like.) or add a Pingback to your post and I’ll scuttle over to see what you’ve come up with. 😀

Now let the space-jams funk you up!

This already ran on long enough and you want lyrics?! Okay.

I may run and hide
When you’re screamin’ my name, alright
But let me tell you now
There are prices to fame, alright
All of our time spent in flashes of light

All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
Every time we’re down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life

Looking at the crowd
And I see your body sway, c’mon
Wishin’ I could thank you in a different way, c’mon
‘Cause all of your time spent keeps us alive

All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
Every time we’re down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life

All of your time spent keeps us alive

All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
Every time we’re down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life

Yeah, every time we’re down
Yeah, you can make it right
Yeah, and that’s what makes you larger than life

All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
Every time we’re down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger
That makes you larger
That makes you larger than life

Them good girls straight masterpieces
Stylin’, wilin’, livin’ it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Got kiss myself, I’m so pretty

I’m too hot (hot damn)
Called a police and a fireman
I’m too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire man
I’m too hot (hot damn)
Say my name you know who I am
I’m too hot (hot damn)
Am I bad ’bout that money, break it down

Stop, wait a minute
Fill my cup, put some liquor in it
Take a sip, sign a check

Ride to Harlem, Hollywood
Jackson, Mississippi
If we show up, we gon’ show out
Smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy

  1. I feel this post … being the little goth girl I “was” I despised BSB… but I knew all thenlyrics to that sing cause… robots and space and shit..
Same with Uptown Funk. I still get that same feeling when I like a song that isn’t screamo. Which there are a lot. But teenagehood does something to you.
I like both of those songs. I will be posting a music Monday in response. Even though it is nowhere near my Monday… thank goodness.

I’m sorry you have not had a good week…
